Looking for Adventures

As I had to work overtime during the past 2 weeks, I felt the need for a treat - like an adventure on this long Whitsun weekend. On Sunday my husband and I started our way to Leipzig by train at 8:30 am. In Goslar our train to Halle was cancelled, so we had 2 hours to refresh our memories of previous visits in this pretty town at the feet of the Harz mountains.

At noon we travelled on towards the sunny east. Every year at Whitsun lovers of black and exotic clothes meet in Leipzig. There is an area with a concert hall and a medieval village, there are readings, parties and much more. But just by walking or sitting in the city, you can watch such extravagant people passing by - it's better than any play. My husband was very surprised, although I had told him about it.

These actors are not just young people, but personallities of every age.

An hour's walk away, beside the famous war memorial, was a beer festival with beers of many different countries for the inhabtants of Leipzig who were not interested in the city - and some of the Gotik fans as well. There was also plenty of music. As we only had 2 hours to try some beers we didn't manage to taste them all. It was very interesting.

Back in the city centre we had some coffee and cake watching some more and even meeting some friends by chance! Travelling home took more time and we almost missed the last train home because one of the trains was late. Luckily the last train waited for us and we were savely home by 2 am!

Luckily today is a church holiday and we could recover from our adventure!

Magical Mother's Day

This year was my first Mother's Day without any of my daughters at home to spoil me. Of course it's no reason to be sad - it's rather freedom to do what I like best.

As I special treat I had planned to go to a Scandinavian event with a buffett and live music of a very new band, called Lindelund. They play medival swedish music with a harp, nyckleharpa, violin, guitar and bouzuki. There was far too much food to taste everything and the music was wonderful. Once we had eaten enough, everyone went outside and the musicians followed with their instruments. It was fantastic!!!

On the way home I stopped by the Schaumburg (castle) to deliver some flyers. I left the car at the edge of the forest and walked on the road up to the castle. After enjoying the wonderful view with plenty of yellow rapeseed fields, I walked back through the forest where the ground is covered with bear's garlic blossom right now. It is awsome!

Returning home, filled with so many happy experiences, I took my harp outside to our garden to play.

What a wonderful Mother's Day!
